Australian Trade Mission, Feb 2011

We have wrapped up a busy week of meetings with government officials and CEOs of both emerging and well established companies in Melbourne and Sydney. All of the companies are interested in gaining access to the North American markets. It appears from the feedback and follow up communications that we have persuaded many that Indiana and Indianapolis are the best places to do business in the U.S. They are impressed with our geographic location in proximity to the desired markets, the relatively low cost of doing business, our tax structure and the fiscal responsibility of our government and the potential for collaboration with our world renowned academic institutions. We will continue to pursue these opportunities to establish long term and mutually beneficial business relationships.

Australian Trade Mission, February 2011 Day 3

Day 3 started bright and early with back to back breakfasts in Melbourne.  The first appointment was a husband and wife power couple in the biotech industry – both CEOs of different companies.  We discussed potential research trials to be conducted by IU in minority populations as well as potential operations in Indy.  (One firm has a small office in North Carolina they are open to relocating).  The rest of the appointments on days 3 & 4 were very focused on manufacturing.  As the economy continues to thrive in Australia, inflation (the TV was advertising a “low” 7.13% home mortgage interest rate) and the high cost of doing business is motivating companies to diversify their manufacturing.  Interesting how the Middle East unrest has reminded the CEOs I met with to max their Chinese production at 33% overall capacity.  Continue Reading
