Touchdown!
That’s what it felt like when USA Football recently chose Indianapolis at its new headquarters. And it was a choice that was made good business sense—for them and for us.
For starters, USA Football is joining a prestigious list of amateur sports-related organizations that call Indianapolis home: the NCAA, U.S. Diving, USA Gymnastics, Horizon League, U.S. Synchronized Swimming, Central Hockey League and about a dozen more.
Secondly, amateur sports in this city and state are only buoyed by a strong pro sports culture that includes the Super Bowl winning Indianapolis Colts, the Indiana Pacers and the Indiana Fever, and the Indianapolis Indians.
Third, Indianapolis is a seasoned veteran at hosting the tournaments, games and events that are often sponsored by these organizations: NCAA Final Four, Big Ten Basketball Tournaments, Circle City Classic and, of course, the upcoming Super Bowl XLVI.
Bottom line: Amateur and pro sports are big business for our city. These elite national sports organizations together contribute more than $91 million to the Indiana economy. And another $3 billion has been generated over the years by the 400+ national and international events held in Indianapolis.
These organizations also bring a significant base of stable, good-paying job, which further impact the economy through housing, schools, shopping, utilities, etc.
Together, these sports organizations, teams and events are making Indy a real winner!
